This is their widest cut and you can easily wear a base layer and multiple mid layers under this jacket. By layers, they really mean layers so you will be warmer than ever. It has a larger cut than normal so you can easily layer under it without restricting your movement. The Expedition fit is made specifically for weather protection against winter and other extreme cold conditions. The fit of this jacket is Arc’teryx‘s Expedition fit. Also, if you’re one of those that find the scratchy friction sound of the thicker expedition-style jacket to be annoying, you’ll love how quiet this great jacket is. Not only is it extremely warm, but it also is a waterproof jacket and windproof for extra weather protection.ĭespite being such a serious rain jacket with amazing warmth, it feels soft to the touch and doesn’t feel stiff on the body. This breathable and durable jacket is just downright impressive. Benefits and Features of the Fission SV – Things We Liked ![]() Let’s take a look at some of the major selling points and benefits for the Fission SV. Essentially it can take on whatever you can throw at it in terms of weather: rain, cold, wind… The name itself explains this: Fission is for “insulated, windproof and waterproof outer layers” and SV is Arc’teryx’s label for severe weather clothing with the best warmth. This jacket is considered an expedition warm jacket and for good reason. 6 pockets total – 2 on chest, 2 side pockets and 2 internal.XPD Expedition fit with longer than average length (about hip length).3 color options – Anvil Gray, Oxblood and Black.Final Take – Is the Fission SV Worth the Price?. ![]() Benefits and Features of the Fission SV – Things We Liked. So even if it is a little big, it can be tightened down fairly well. However I could easily layer a delta, atom lt, and thorium ar under the thing with the space it has. The fission is obviously even larger on my frame, though it still seams reasonable if I work the adjustments. If they fit trim like they are designed, I might stick with the medium.įor me at this point I'm a medium in arc stuff, even the trim items. If they fit you loose at all, then I'd think a Fission in a small would make sense. I don't know the Nemis, but the rest of those items are all trim fit. ![]() However, that could be because it is expedition cut to allow for layering. I got it when I was actually a large in other Arc gear and even then the Fission was quite big on me, it felt about a half size too big. How well do the mediums fit? Others can confirm/comment here, but for me I have a fission in a large. Has anyone compared between the three for urban wear? Thanks in advance! I also won't be climbing or skiing anytime soon. I'll probably never wear a helmet for work, unless I'm riding a scooter and need a helmet, so these hoods will be massive on me. I'm hoping this is the jacket that will last me the next 8 years at least. But I also thought the Macai would be good because it had everything I need but it's probably one of the most expensive ones. I also wear a waist belt with pouches from time to time so that's why I included the Alpha IS. Can you technically wear jackets made for skiing/snowboarding or climbing for urban wear? Are there technical disadvantages to this ? My concern with the Fission is the high collar because of things like: camera straps, sling bag straps. I guess my question is this: I tend to wear shorter cropped jackets (bomber style) because I'm only 5'8" and long jackets usually make me look shorter. I've picked out these three because they have gore-tex outer shells. I am a photographer, so I travel for work: I have to be active (I run warm when I do), meaning I move around a lot on my feet or sometimes be completely still while staying outdoors. I'm still going to replace my 8 year old atom LT with a newer hoody version this time, but I'm in search for a versatile yet nimble winter jacket, something to keep me warm all the way down to 0-5 F with the use of midlayers. My atom LT + goretex shell isn't quite cutting it anymore. I have a winter jacket choice to make and I was wondering if I could get some advice from users here. ![]()
